How one spiral-bound book continued to guide visitors long after the first page was turned.

As Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center celebrated the opening of its new Critical Care Building, an existing guidebook found a new purpose. Rather than creating a brand-new publication, Cincinnati Children’s partnered with Evolution creative solutions to reintroduce the original spiral-bound guidebook, allowing visitors to compare the hospital’s vision with the progress already achieved.
One Guidebook, Two Milestones
The original guidebook debuted during Cincinnati Children’s Critical Care fundraising campaign, introducing donors and supporters to the hospital’s long-term vision through detailed, color-coded campus maps and construction plans.
When Phase 1 opened, the same guidebook became just as valuable. Visitors could now use it to tour the completed spaces while also seeing how future phases would continue transforming the campus.
By reusing the original piece rather than creating an entirely new publication, Cincinnati Children’s saved on design time and costs while reinforcing the progress already made toward its vision.
Sometimes the smartest print strategy isn’t creating something new. It’s recognizing when a well-designed piece still has more to say.
Designed to Go the Distance
Evolution creative solutions reprinted the oversized, top-bound spiral guidebook with vibrant digital printing and durable white plastic coil binding, making it easy to flip pages while walking through the building. The landscape format allowed the color-coded maps and construction illustrations to be viewed comfortably during self-guided tours, while the sturdy binding kept the book intact through repeated handling.
A Smart Second Chapter
Great print doesn’t have to be one-and-done.
By thinking beyond a single campaign, Cincinnati Children’s extended the life of an existing marketing piece while giving visitors a meaningful way to experience the hospital’s progress firsthand. The result was a practical guidebook, a stronger return on the original design investment, and another example of how strategic print planning can continue paying dividends long after the first press run.
Your print vision is Evolution creative solutions’ mission. Whether it’s creating something new or finding new life in an existing piece, the right print strategy can deliver value well beyond its first impression.
